The meaning behind Colour of The Year 2021: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating by Pantone®

Since the world has been facing the pandemic from the late 2019, everything seems to be in a pause mode. The booming era of budget airlines and people traveling around the world suddenly stopped. Many countries are in lockdown. The number of cases kept arising everyday along with number of deaths. No one knows when this situation will end.

Pantone® picked up two colours to represent this situation and at the same time. to give positive energy; PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. These two colours are great when they stands alone. However, when they are together, it gives such a deep emotion and meaning. Just imagine when you are in a forest or at the beach, standing in the midst of the various shades of green from the trees, shades of blue from the ocean, and shades of brown from the sand, there always be immense rocks, giving feelings of calmness, stability, and flexibility. Illuminating is the shade of the sun; it represents warmth, liveliness and optimism. It concludes that, we could not avoid this situation. However, we will face it with the feeling that everything is going to be better, brighter. Just be strong and patient.

Colour of The Year usually launches a single colour. However, in 2021, Pantone selected two colours again after they did in 2016 with Rose Quartz and Serenity. You can see details and tips how to use these two colours in each segment on Pantone’s website https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2021
